Technique Dance
for Ages 11-18

Danvers ages 11 and older begin at our Technique 1 level. Progression to Technique 2 is based on skill mastery and teacher recommendation, not age. Classes will contain a mix of ages. The season runs September through June with a recital mid-June.

Ballet

This classical form of artistic expression is the foundation of all dance disciplines. Classes are exposed to multiple methods including French, Cecchetti, Vaganova and RAD. Body placement, turn-out and direction are stressed in addition to proper French terminology and pronunciation. All classes include barrework, center practice, floor progression and reverence accompanied by classical music. What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with pink leather Ballet shoes. Black leotard, pink tights and hair in a bun is required for Technique 2. Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt and black leather Ballet shoes. Tap

This class focuses on mastery of  steps and rhythms.  Intricate footwork and syncopated rhythms are learned as the class advances. Musicality is stressed through timing and weight transfer.
 What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with black Tap shoes. Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt and black Tap shoes Class Schedule: Technique 1 (Ages 11-18) Tuesday 8:00-9:00 Technique 2 (Ages 13+ by teacher recommendation) Thursday 8:00-9:00

Jazz

Classic Jazz technique is refined by working on kicks, leaps, turns, jumps and center combinations. Students are exposed to different Jazz styles including Broadway, Commercial, Character, Fossé, Musical Theater, Luigi and Funk. What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with black Jazz shoes. Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt and black Jazz shoes Class Schedule: Technique 1 (Ages 11-18) Thursday 8:00-9:00 Technique 2 (Ages 13+ by teacher recommendation) Thursday 6:00-7:00

Hip Hop

Cutting-edge moves are taught in an age-appropriate manner to family-friendly music. A Jazz or Ballet class must be taken in conjunction with Hip Hop. What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with black Dance Sneakers. Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt and black Dance Sneakers Class Schedule: Technique 1 (Ages 11-18) Thursday 7:00-8:00 Technique 2 (Ages 13+ by teacher recommendation) Thursday 7:00-8:00

Tumbling

This class teaches basic floor tumbling skills including rolls, cartwheels, handstands and more. The curriculum includes exercises to develop flexibility, strength and balance. Proper attention is given to injury prevention and instilling safe habits. Tumbling classes run September through May and do not perform in our annual recital. Beginning Tumbling introduces basic skills which include forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, backbends, handstands and headstands. Intermediate Tumbling builds on basic skills to include standing bridges, limbers, walk-overs and chest stands. Advanced Tumbling works on handsprings, aerials and partnering. What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights, a biketard or unitard. Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt. Tumblers come barefoot. Leaps & Turns

This class will focus on improving leaps, jumps and turns.  Students will work on strength and mechanics for executing advanced turning sequences and explosive leap variations.  Attention will be given to proper alignment, technique and injury prevention.  This technique class does not perform in our annual show.  What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with bare feet, Jazz or Ballet shoes Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt and bare feet, Jazz or Ballet shoes. Pointe

Progression to hard boxed shoes is available to students ages 12 & older with a minimum of four consecutive years of Ballet training and teacher recommendation. Female students must have strong muscular and skeletal development to support themselves on pointe shoes. Students must take Ballet class in addition to Pointe. What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with teacher-approved Pointe shoes. Modern/Contemporary

This class is a fusion of traditional Modern disciplines and current Contemporary styles.  The combined class will use a whole body approach to allow freedom of expression. Dancers will learn how levels of movement, use of space, gravity, breathing and the weight of the body affect the physical dynamics of dance motion.  Flexibility, balance, control, improvisation and emotion will be explored through exercises and choreography.  A Jazz or Ballet class must be taken in addition to this class.   What To Wear: Girls wear a leotard and tights with bare feet. Boys wear Black Gym shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt and bare feet.
